Ryan and Moret come up just short of no-hitters

Nolan Ryan and Roger Moret failed to complete no-hitters in a night of close calls. Ryan, two outs from a third no hitter, allowed the White Sox’s tying run in the ninth as Dick Allen singled. Moret carried his no hit bid 72 and two thirds innings before Pedro Garcia’s single broke it up.

Lompoc Yearling Softball Team Tops Sepulveda Dodgerettes

Lompoc All-Stars beat the Sepulveda Dodgerettes 6-2 in the San Fernando Valley Softball Invitational. Jan Jeffers and Mary Villalobos pitched a two hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk. Terri Cruz had two singles as Lompoc scored three runs in the first inning on walks and sacrifices. Future games set Friday at 5 p.m. with the winner of Tarzana versus Invader.
