Mormons Dedicate Solvang Chapel Marking Phase Two Finish
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints dedicated the Solvang chapel Sunday marking completion of phase two of a three part project. Marion D. Hanks presided with LaVarr Colvin conducting as 240 local Mormons attended. The $235000 structure was fully paid for by member contributions. An open house was held Friday and plans for a future cultural hall with basketball court, drama stage, kitchen and five classrooms were outlined.

The Solvang Lutheran Home festival and bazaar will be a two day event Friday and Saturday September 24 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. An open house at the home and Santa Ynez Valley Recovery Residence will accompany the festival with donations sought from guild members and friends.

Solvang drew heavy crowds over a three day Labor Day weekend with crowded parking and jammed sidewalks. Traffic along Alisal Road Copenhagen Drive and Mission Drive slowed to a crawl as visitors shopped and dined. One business owner counted roughly 800 cars entering Solvang per hour on Sunday afternoon via Highway 246 while storms barely tempered the rush to the valley and coast towns.

Woman's Club to Host September Tea in Solvang
Santa Ynez Valley Woman's Club will hold its annual September tea in the Veterans Memorial Building Solvang with 172 members last year. Mrs Lyman Peck presides as president and Mrs Lewis Cass leads arrangements. The event features flowers corsages and musical duets by Miss Carolyn Endeman and Miss Melinda Mashburn. The tea begins Friday at 2 p m with committees and the executive board assisting. Reservations for a screening of a Heimlich Maneuver film are requested at Santa Ynez Valley Hospital 688 6431 with donations accepted to cover rental costs.
