President Nixon flies to Washington with a stop in San Francisco to press for congressional approval of Gateway West a proposed new park in the Bay Area. California trip aims to rally support from lawmakers and voters during the campaign.
Washington Congress ends an 18 day recess and faces major bills including revenue sharing and a U S Soviet arms accord. President Nixon warns of inept Congress if it delays action on health welfare reorganizations and government restructuring.
Lompoc Unified School District starts the fall term at 18 schools with about 3 000 students using bus transportation the busing plan runs smoothly despite a shift in honors class assignments and gate clearance concerns at Westwinds and Miguelito.
James Hernandez of the Automobile Club of Southern California was named 1972 Flower Festival Chairman by the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce. He serves on the chamber board and Rotary Club and will organize the 21st Annual Flower Festival set for June 22 to 24, 1973.
The Lompoc City Council aims to resolve a long running dispute over water rate changes tonight. Staff seeks a 20 percent across the board increase to fund capital needs while the Water Commission proposes doubled connection fees and reduced free water.
