Cal Poly hosts family concert featuring rock opera and classics

Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo presents a free 8 p.m. concert by the Summer Chorus and Summer Orchestra in the Cal Poly Theater. Selections include Jesus Christ Superstar, Handel Royal Fireworks, Valse Triste, Scarlatti Exultate Deo, and Bartok Romanian Folk Dances. Directors John R. Russell and Clifton E. Swanson lead the ensembles.

Supervisors drop second Isla Vista study phase in favor of PSAS

County supervisors on Monday decided against a second phase of the Isla Vista governmental study. They approved a Public Services Allocation Study by a professional consultant to examine Goleta Valley and Isla Vista governmental options, with Isla Vista group invited to participate with the planning steering committee.

U.S. farm population falls below 10 million for first time

Census Bureau data show the 1969 to 1970 period ending April 1970 as 9,712,000 farm residents. The decline marks the first time under 10 million since 1920, with farm share dropping to 4.8 percent while nonfarm growth continues.
