Violent August Weather Hits Northwest Gulf Coast
United Press International reports a violent change in August in the northwest and Gulf Coast with cool air moving in after Tuesday storms. No injuries or damage were reported from the storms though tornado threats circulated near Port Mansfield Texas and hail hit Houston. A waterspout formed near Galveston and then faded as showers and thunderstorms spread nationwide. Temperatures varied from 94 in Phoenix to 41 in Houlton Maine.

Man sets fire to lemon on Ford plant lawn
Eddie Campos drove a 1970 Continental Mark II onto the Ford Motor Co assembly plant lawn in Pico Rivera poured gasoline on it and set it afire. Fire officials assess the loss at 6500. Campos a La Habra resident claimed the car was a lemon and said he will continue payments to the finance company. A deputy noted Campos was sober and rational after the incident.
