Man chops holes in jet over dog death at Miami airport

Thomas William Brown, 38, a carpenter, hacked 18 holes in an Eastern Airlines jet after blaming the carrier for his champion Irish wolfhound's May death. He claimed he bought paint and an ax to porch paint and to chop a rubber tree, but damaged a Boeing 727. He faced federal destruction charges and was held on 100000 bond.

Teamsters Picket Salinas lettuce grower signing with Chavez

In Salinas Valley, Teamsters closed Inter Harvest processing sheds after unauthorized picketing by members aligned with Cesar Chavez and the UFWOC. Inter Harvest had reached a contract with Chavez. meanwhile other growers firmed against the union and court actions emerged over the labor dispute and rover-related damages.

Body of Salazar to lie in state in California

The body of Ruben Salazar, slain by a tear gas projectile during East Los Angeles rioting, would lie in state at Bagues Mortuary. Salazar, 42, news director at Kmex, also wrote for the Los Angeles Times and led its Mexico City and Saigon bureaus. He is survived by his wife Sally, three children, a sister and his parents.

UAW and Big Three Open Wage Talks in Detroit

In Detroit the UAW and General Motors Ford and Chrysler begin three year contract talks with identical wage and benefit proposals.
