Lompoc Chess Club Seeks New Members and Tournament News
The Lompoc Valley Chess Club meets Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the Community Building. The group, affiliated with the United States Chess Federation, runs a six round Swiss championship begun last week. Andrew Kraus leads as favorite after a win over Terry Brocksmith. other winners included Charlie Vandeborg and Howard Scott with Lynn Newcomb and Rajan Ayyar drawing. Norman Larson plans an all-school tournament today to boost participation in local events, with no entry fee and prizes at high and elementary levels, including a record 20 elementary prizes this year.
