Six Lompoc Valley high school seniors compete for the 1970 Junior Miss crown Saturday night at Cabrillo High School little theatre. Arraignment for Parents in Abandoned Girl Case

Jody Smith identified her parents Ronald Fouquet and Betty Fouquet as the couple charged with cruel and inhumane punishment after leaving the four year old beside a freeway. They faced arraignment in Bakersfield Municipal Court with bail set at 12500 each. A hearing was set for November 13 to decide wardship for Jody.

Halloween patrols stepped up by Lompoc police

Police Chief Ray Robertson says Halloween night patrols will be strengthened with a new one night schedule to handle expected complaints. He hopes the night is calmer than last year and urges groups light colored costumes, flashlights, and parental supervision with precautions and reporting trouble. Tax cut outlines agreed by Senate finance committee

The Senate Finance Committee endorsed broad tax relief totaling 8.9 billion dollars for 70 million taxpayers with at least five percent rate cuts and a 10 percent standard deduction up to 1000 dollars. A 14 percent cut for some high bracket families and a higher deduction to 2000 dollars were among proposals debated as Gore backed a 1000 dollar exemption but lost.

Hijacker Forces TWA Jet to Denver Then Bangor Flight

An armed hijacker on a Trans World Airlines jet from Los Angeles to San Francisco diverted to Denver then New York, briefly disembarking 39 passengers.
