Mayor Art Scott proclaims United Nations Day and United Nations Week for Lompoc at the urging of the AAUW branch. The observance marks the UN’s 26th anniversary and UNICEF’s 25th. UNICEF sales begin mid November at Lompoc and Vandenberg AFB post offices, organized by Mrs. Bryan Leyda.

Shots fired at Soviet Mission near United Nations
Four shots penetrated a window of the Soviet Mission to the United Nations late Wednesday night. Bullets hit a wall where four children reportedly slept. Police traced the shots to a 14th floor parapet at Hunter College about 700 feet from the mission. A high powered rifle was recovered from a 15th floor airshaft inside the college.

The County Planning Commission will hear three major Santa Ynez Valley projects on Nov. 10, seeking General Plan changes to allow 1,500 plus new homes. Alisal Ranch would add 1,000 homes over years on 900 acres, Mesa Verde Ranch proposes 470 homes on 470 acres, and ESI Land Technology plans 102 homes on 102 acres.
