Weather satellite fails to orbit from Vandenberg AFB
A Delta rocket launch from Vandenberg AFB failed to place the ITOS-B weather satellite into orbit. The $10 million craft carried four daytime cameras and two infrared sensors but lost orbital stability after its upper stage engine restart. Reentry occurred about 90 minutes after lift off near Devon Island in the Arctic.
