Demos push last chance property tax relief plan
In Sacramento Democrats began a vigorous push for a so called last chance property tax relief program amid Republican skepticism and Reagan administration warnings of a monsterous tax increase. Backers say the bill would save a family of four about 101 dollars annually on a 12500 dollar income with a 24000 dollar home while raising 1.1 billion overall with 460 million directed to homeowner property tax relief.

The House, once backing Nixon’s Vietnam policy 333 to 55, narrowed to 215 to 192 as deliberations over the Mansfield amendment to withdraw U.S. forces in six months continued. White House and GOP framed the vote as a clear win while doves pressed for a firm withdrawal deadline tied to POW returns. Senate action by Cooper-Church aimed to attach an end the war measure to the foreign aid bill, seeking swift troop withdrawal though no fixed date.
