Mideast policies tougher and cease fire uncertainty grows

County Board Receives Salary Proposals and Firemen Hours Change

The County Board of Supervisors reviewed Dec 1 salary recommendations totaling 1,125,000 for the 1970-71 year, about 192,000 under budget. Average statewide increases run 8.54 percent for 242,449 county positions, with firemen offered 10 percent and duty hours proposed to drop from 84 to 72 hours by Dec 1 and to 67 by July 1.

Supreme Court to rule on federal gun control law

The Supreme Court agreed to hear this term whether the 1968 gun control act, requiring transfer and sale registrations with the Treasury, is constitutional despite a California ruling that registration could expose individuals to self incrimination.
