Rogers questions Moscow on peace aims and Cuban base

Commerce secretary foresees six percent prime rate return

Commerce Secretary Maurice H. Stans predicted the prime interest rate will return to six per cent, saying lower rates are likely but not timing. He spoke in San Francisco on CBS TV and urged continued free trade to open markets, noting a projected U.S. merchandise trade surplus around $3 billion this year and exports near $50 billion for 1973.

Arab nations discuss joint stance on U S economic interests

Al Ahram reports Egypt and Libya and other Arab states are pursuing a coordinated position on American economic interests in the Middle East. The plan echoes Gamal Abdel Nasser's earlier hints of action and cites possible U N sanctions on Israel with Mr Mahmoud Riad traveling to the United States.

Iran hijackers thwarted in attempt on Tehran flight

Three Iranian hijackers seized an Iranian jet on a Tehran to Kuwait route, forcing a landing in Baghdad where they threatened to blow up the plane if prisoners were freed. Iraqi authorities foiled the plot. one co pilot was wounded, and the hijackers were captured. The plane carried 52 aboard.

Red troops push near Phnom Penh amid Republic celebrations

North Vietnamese forces attacked six miles east of Phnom Penh and near Mont Krassas Krao on a night of renewed actions. Cambodian gunboats aided defenses on the Mekong as artillery fire drew crowds celebrating Cambodia's republic status. Casualty figures were not released.
