Former FBI Agent Details Spy Activity Against Muskie Campaign

John R. Buckley testified before the Senate Watergate committee that while on government payroll he hired a cab driver to courier documents from Muskie headquarters to his Senate office and photographed them. He said OKO superiors knew nothing. he used film developed by himself and paid about 8000 dollars, with Ed Warren later identified as E Howard Hunt.

Almond shortages grow as California crop slumps this year

California almond production falls from 200 million to 155 million shelled pounds due to February and March weather. Global demand for 1973 is about 360 million pounds with 325 million pounds produced. Roger Baccigaluppi of the California Almond Growers Exchange says shortages will hit confectionery and cake mix users, though American shoppers may still find almonds at higher prices. He calls 1973 a single year situation and expects prices to level off later. the exchange represents 4600 growers and 70 percent of state production, with members paid an average 65.5 cents per pound last year, likely to double.

Toxicology tests on Carole Jean Corser and Karen Lee Bard, ages 32 and 29, found dead September 26 in their home at 3610 Via Lato from barbiturate overdoses. SheriffDet Stan Otremba called the deaths a personal crisis. A probation officer in Santa Monica alerted police via a letter to the women’s parents.
