Army orders life or death court martial for Lt Calley
The Army ordered a capital court martial for 1st Lt. William L. Calley Jr. on charges including premeditated murder of not less than 70 Orientals and murder of 109 South Vietnamese civilians at My Lai. The trial will be at Fort Benning with a potential death penalty if convicted. A separate inquiry heads to determine if the massacre was hushed up.

Israel planes raid Suez in heaviest night strike to date
Israeli warplanes conducted a four hour night raid across the Suez Canal targeting Egyptian positions along the west bank. An Egyptian soldier was wounded and Cairo claimed air defenses repelled the attacks. In Acre rioting Arab districts were pushed back by police. In Jenin two guerrillas and two Israeli border policemen were wounded. Israel said the raid was retaliation for cross canal commando raids damaging tanks and killing Israeli soldiers.

Apollo 12 crews complete Pacific splashdown in Apollo era finale
Apollo 12 moon pilots Conrad Gordon and Bean splashed down southeast of Pago Pago after a 10 day mission. The USS Hornet recovered them as they shed orbit and prepared for 16 days of lunar quarantine and return to Houston Space Center. The crew retrieved rocks and samples and spoke with reporters in a televised news conference.
