Community events and fundraisers fill Lompoc calendar

United Fund Bowling Tournament planned for November 23 24 at Lompoche Alley with three divisions men women youth and trophies. Blood Bank visit November 22 at Alpha Club House 4 30 6 30 p m. Donors asked to fast four hours. Various activities follow including square dancing November 23 at La Mesa Elementary School Auditorium and a Ralph Adams Magic Show at Lompoc High School. Proceeds support the United Fund and local clubs.

Wells Fargo predicts slow U.S. economic recovery

Wells Fargo analyst Joseph A. Wahed cautions in the bank forecast that the U.S. economy will not show signs of recovery until late 1975 and the upturn will be only moderate. Inflation and recession create a difficult road with no quick solution.

FEA threatens suit to keep Arco fuel for rural areas

The Federal Energy Administration threatened Atlantic Richfield Co to stop closing Spinetti's Arco in Colusa and warned a legal action within three days. An FEA official said Arco may not sustain local deliveries from Sacramento during harvests, while Arco denied planned plant closures and cited uneconomical pollution controls.

Major snowstorm hits New England and Laura coast areas

Northern New England faced its first major snowstorm with six inches in Vermont New Hampshire and Maine causing road closures and traffic delays. Wind and heavy rain swept the Pacific Coast and Great Lakes with 14-foot waves and beach erosion near Lake Erie and Lake Michigan.

Brown reform suit dismissed over nonexistent law

A UPI report says Gov elect Edmund G. Brown Jr. saw his reform suit against Californians Against the Street and Road Tax Trap dismissed by a Superior Court judge who ruled the case relied on a law that no longer exists. The action targeted anonymous gifts totaling $95 000 to the anti Prop 18 group and named several officers and oil companies as defendants. Gulf Oil settled by donating 25000 to UC smog research. Standard and Mobil admitted contributions as the suit sought penalties up to 250000.

Minor quakes shake Owens Valley in California

The Owens Valley in Southern California rattled with more than 20 small earthquakes on Thursday as minor tremors spread across the region. A separate legal note mentions the 1973 Waxman Dymally Campaign Disclosure Act and a dismissed suit over an older code replaced by the act, with defense lawyers arguing the suit rested on a nonexistent law.
