Lompoc hearing set on county OB care plan

Santa Barbara County plans three December public hearings on obstetrical services. The board weighs continuing Medi Cal contracted obstetricians, hiring county physicians to travel countywide, or discontinuing obstetrical care. Pre natal nurse care recently started at the Veterans Memorial Building in Lompoc. Webbsaid notices were limited and urged broader public awareness.

Ocean Park may gain upgrades via Air Force county joint venture

A proposed cooperative project could fund improvements at Ocean Park west of Lompoc as the Air Force strengthens a nearby parking lot and water line. Vandenberg engineer William Fick says the plan hinges on Navy CBs possibly raising the lot, plus county input on materials and water rights. Lompoc Unified School District prepares to adopt new High School Proficiency Test rules. Pass requires 60 percent. repeated attempts allowed with mandatory language and math remediation for failures. Certificates of completion issued if diploma unattainable. Starting April 1978, eighth and ninth graders to take test. ninth graders may have option but face three opportunities as required by law. Also on the agenda: review state testing results, Vocational Education Advisory Committee plan, La Honda PTA ice cream sale permission, and AB 65 finance video presentation.

Housing Authority chief resigns amid FBI probe

Fred W. Money, suspended in August during an FBI inquiry into the County Housing Authority, resigned his post on Oct. 27 with the board accepting the notice on Nov. 10. The probe centered on an unauthorized banking account tied to Money and former director Richard Mires. Acting director Michael Lynn said the agency will appoint a new executive director after reviewing six applications by a Nov. 30 deadline.

Split review panel hires aide-secretary

An Ojai man named John Patton was hired as administrative assistant and secretary for the County Formation Review Commission. The appointment occurred Friday in Santa Barbara after an executive session and will begin December 1 with a salary between 1400 and 1700 dollars. Durley notes Patton, aged 30 to 35, has extensive Ohio city and county government experience before moving to California. The commission will formally announce the hire Tuesday at 3 30 p.m. during a regehas Session in quarters of the Solvang Municipal Improvement District.
