Quota Club Grants Donations and Scholarships in Lompoc

Quota Club votes a year long monthly cash gift to Girls Club of Lompoc for clubhouse kitchen needs retroactive to last June. They also offer $100 scholarships to a senior girl at Lompoc and Cabrillo high schools to be awarded during Awards Day. Other items include toiletries for teens for Christmas Cheer and reports from the Porterville conference.

Thanksgiving themed Eastern Star welcomes seven new members

The Miguelito Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star held a Thanksgiving themed meeting at the Masonic Temple on November 12. New members Josie and Harvey Baden Shirley and Marvin Ochs joined by affiliation Marie and Henry Edwards and Helen Hartman. Marguerite Hall was introduced as a 50-year member.

Dial Attends Boys Club Conference in Santa Barbara

Ken Dial executive director of the Boys Club of Lompoc Valley returned from a three day regional administrative conference in Santa Barbara. Directors from about 80 Boys Clubs across four states attended to sharpen managerial skills for youth work. Dial emphasized the need for club workers to combine frontline youth service with strong administrative abilities to serve the community and sustain funding.

Inglewood Ceremony Unites Manford Garwood and Janet Bristow

The couple were married November 9 at First Presbyterian Church in Inglewood with Rev. Daniel Newhall officiating. The bride, Janet Elaine Bristow, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Bristow of Hawthorne. the groom, Dewey M. Garwood Jr., is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey M. Garwood of Vandenberg Village. The ceremony featured a double ring exchange, and both attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. The groom works for Bechtel Inc. in Oakland. many Lompoc relatives attended, including grandparents from Dayton, Ohio.

Mrs Clyde Gauld of Santa Ynez was named Santa Barbara County Cowbelle of the Year at the Danish Inn of Solvang. Evelyn Donati presented a silver cowbell to honor her long service. The meeting also announced a slate of officers and reported on cowbelle activities including barbecues, cattlemen’s meeting notes, and Christmas placemats.
