County workers eye bikes for short county trips

Lompoc Water Department Upgrades Thirteen Staff

Thirteen employees of the Lompoc Water Department including Water Treatment Plant staff received upgraded California Department of Public Health certifications. Harcourt withdraws 41‑lot Santa Ynez subdivision plan

Santa Barbara businessman Hastings Harcourt has withdrawn the tentative subdivision map approved last July by the County Planning Commission for a 41‑lot agricultural subdivision on the Ballard Canyon Road corridor between Solvang and Buellton. Attorney Stanley Hatch, representing Harcourt, cited no reason for the withdrawal.

Eight Die In Bakersfield Crash With Van And Sedan

Eight persons were killed and two seriously injured when a van driven by Leland Stonebarger of Bakersfield ran a stop sign on Cottonwood Road and collided with a nine person sedan. Both vehicles erupted in flames. The CHP confirmed the fatal crash occurred Sunday evening. The report notes no further public hearing on a tentative tract map needed after Harcourt’s ruling.

Cota adobe listed for sale as historic monument or horse ranch

The Cota adobe built around 1838 on the Santa Rose Rancho was restored 1948–55 by Joe Silva and family. Sold to John Ford in 1962, later owned by the Riggs, the 22 acre property now returns to market as a historic monument or horse ranch with unusual features.

Price of firewood to rise this winter says official

County Sealer James E. Wiley warns firewood prices will be higher than normal due to the energy crisis.
