Senate passes 349 million school finance bill in Sacramento

The Senate approved a 349 million school finance bill by a 26-4 vote, but sponsor Sen. Albert Rodda says its fate in the Assembly is bleak. The measure would be funded from the state budget surplus and federal revenue sharing with no tax increases or property tax relief. Rodda called it a catchup to Serrano, while Moretti remains focused on a combined tax shift and school finance bill. A conference panel continues work on a 1.2 billion tax chief school finance measure backed by Moretti and Reagan.
