Detox centers to open soon in Santa Barbara County

Santa Barbara County plans a new 24 hour alcohol detox program in Santa Barbara Santa Maria and Lompoc. The Farmhouse in Lompoc is ready to open now while Santa Barbara and Santa Maria centers face licensing and remodeling delays. Centers aim for about a three day stay to rehabilitate and reduce welfare costs.

Mrs. Fred J. Tooze of the Women's Christian Temperance Union urged curtailing liquor production to save electricity and other resources amid the energy crisis. Separately, the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission ordered taverns and liquor stores to turn off neon signs to conserve energy, with some exemptions. Dixy Lee Ray supported nuclear power as the solution.

A series of local notices follow including event cancellations, class registrations, an accidental shooting, a minor pedestrian collision, and a teachers meeting in Lompoc.

Survived by two daughters Helen Ross and Dee Sudbury, sister Helen Friel, five grandchildren, one nephew. Donations to charity of choice.
