Mohler, Van Allen pace LOM drive heavy in 41 win

In a high scoring game LOM opened with a 54 yard drive and a 6 yard pass from Ag to Mohler for a 7 0 lead. Polly added a 5 yard rush in the second quarter and Greco accounted for a kick. Van Allen and Ringer connected for a 23 yard pass and a 9 yard keeper helped build the lead. Marchbanks added a 27 yard run concluding scoring as Greco kick remained good.

Cabell College routs Beavers with multiple rushing TDs

Saints narrowly topple Tigers in low scoring clash

Santa Maria's Saints edged San Luis Obispo 10 to 0 as a 32 yard field goal by John Almaguer and a 40 yard pass from Jay Baker to Rick Johnson secured the win. Santa Maria outgained 132 to 115 and stopped a Tigers drive near the goal line on the six yard line. Tiger Willie Cooper returned a third quarter kickoff 74 yards but the Saints held. West LA edges Hancock in tough Western State clash

West Los Angeles Junior College defeated Hancock 49 26 to tighten the Western State Conference race. West LA star Mike Green scored on two short runs and two short passes, while Hancock’s Lee Brownell connected with Dave Amido for three long TDs. Brownell completed 19 of 35 passes for 298 yards. Harold Moon for Santa Barbara/Cal State led with 333 yards on 38 attempts. Santa Maria driver Cliff Vose failed to defend his $1000 purse at Ascot Park, fuel ran out while leading late, dropping to third as Ronnie Souza placed seventh in a 90 car field. Other locals included Fred Behmer, Bob Taylor, Bobby Randolph, and Darrell Walker.

At La Salle Canyon Stables in Lompoc 201 contestants from 13 FFA chapters competed. Becca Stewart tied Deb Romines for girls All-Around buckles while Teresa Pico led barrel racing and Lompoc riders swept several events including Terry Koberstein and Dave Helm in steer riding and bull riding respectively. Atascadero FFA won team high point for the second year.

Sun Gets a Payday in Anaheim After Late Pay

The Southern California Sun of the WFL paid players eight days late amid a season that may end about $1 million in the red. Coaching and front office staff remain owed back pay after payroll was missed two weeks ago. President Larry Hatfield cited temporary cash flow problems as the cause. players received late checks on Saturday.

Locke High football player dies after Friday game

Philip Miller a 17 year old Locke High School starting linebacker died after head and neck injuries suffered in a Friday game against Banning High School. An autopsy will determine his exact cause of death and officials said it may be the first football related death in Los Angeles city schools in about 30 years.
