West Lompoc Planning Commission urged against creating an agriculture preserve on 250 acres west of the city, warning it would threaten industrial land along West Central Avenue. The panel asked the city to write County Planning Commission noting ranchers needs and concerns over preserves on valuable industrial real estate. Fighting along the Cambodian frontier north of Saigon intensified with North Vietnamese units attacking Fire Base ferry and a hill south of Bu Dop. An American helicopter was shot down near Fire Base Jerry, wounding two as a second copter fell 51 miles northeast of Saigon wounding one. Five Americans were killed and five wounded in the Ferry action. 34 Communists were reported killed near Bu Dop.
