Heavy fog slowed morning boats at Port San Luis and reservations flopped with seven planned trips but only two showed up. Diabolo and Marauder logged 802 rock fish and 210 ling cod, a strong landing as fishermen moved to Avila quarters and Harbor Associates added a boat traffic radio system for quicker hauls.

Eight Lompoc locals competed in the Memorial Day benefit motocross at Spillway Park, led by Vince Clark winning the 125 seniors on a Suzuki. Gay Getchel took 125 juniors second, with Gary Davis and Mike Mann close behind in sixth and seventh. John Grossini earned a 125 seniors second on a Honda, Chuck Czerwinski second in open seniors, Bob Phebus fifth in open juniors, and Mike Cook fourth in 250 juniors for Lompoc Slow Pokes Motorcycle Club. Scramblers from San Jose also participated.
