Indian war drums echo as Alcatraz occupation expands
In San Francisco Bay Indian occupiers on Alcatraz reject a park plan and form a war council to build an Indian cultural center. GSA says the island will become part of a Golden Gate National Recreation Area, with water supplies to be cut off if needed, while authorities monitor health and safety concerns. A separate Sacramento debate over a proposed open meetings notice bill ends with Assembly committee rejection.
