Youth employment center set to open in Lompoc
The Lompoc Odd Fellows Lodge offers a vacant store at 102 W Ocean Ave for a summer youth job placement center. Rick Gallegos of the Employment Development Department announced the office opens June 7 ahead of the Neighborhood Youth Corps program kickoff June 17. Rulings favor nude law in Santa Barbara county case
County opponents press two court challenges over a December ordinance banning nudity on beaches. Santa Barbara Municipal Judge Gowans denied a demurrer by ACLU lawyers against the measure adopted last December. Native Lompocan Ray Beattie 37 dies in Minneapolis
Ray Edward Beattie a native of Lompoc California died Saturday in Minneapolis after a long illness. He was born in 1937 in Lompoc and lived there until 1967 except for Navy service. He moved to Minneapolis in 1967 and last resided at 3833 43rd Ave South. Survivors include his widow Patricia two sons Michael and Thomas his mother and father Mr and Mrs J Edward Beattie of Santa Ynez a brother Daniel of Santa Ynez a sister Maryanne Wilkins of Lancaster and paternal grandmother Edna C Beattie of Lompoc Interment will be in Minneapolis.
