Lompoc Proposes Youth Committee With Budget Action

City Hall will host a 7 p.m. meeting to review the 2.49 million city budget and consider forming a five member city youth committee. The council will also adopt a resolution backing Proposition Nine for the June 4 ballot.

Wegner proposes Hancock lease and Hapgood realignment

School Superintendent Glen Wegner recommends a one year lease with Allan Hancock College for seven Hapgood School rooms. The board will decide tomorrow at 3 30 p m in the Central Administration Building. Wegner also plans to move Maple High School to Los Padres on Vandenberg and keep rural Hapgood students, with Hancock College president Walter Conrad and Maple principal Bernard Moulton backing the plan.

Memorial Day Traffic Swells Frighten Central Coast

CHP braces for homeward flood as Memorial Day traffic swells in the Central Coast. Linda Sue Cline, 21, of Santa Barbara, died when her car crossed the Highway 101 center divider near Castillo Street and plunged to an underpass.

Fire at Santa Maria Airport Burns 40 Acres

A Sunday fire on the Santa Maria Airport property scorched 40 acres of brush and grassland with a one mile perimeter. Firefighters controlled the blaze by 3 p.m. and remained on site overnight. No injuries or structures were threatened. CALVIN Ray Simmons 23 was arrested for DUI after a separate collision nearby. The run off election for State Senator is set for July 2 with June 2 registration. An oil painting valued at 200 to 300 disappeared from LPI Bistro. Richard Burton was discharged from hospital amid news of his breakup with Elizabeth Taylor.
