Bed tax rate cut rescinds hopes of Santa Barbara ad funds
The Board of Supervisors unanimously rescinded an ordinance to raise the county bed tax from 6 to 7 percent, halting a proposed boost for All Year Association advertising funds. Motel operators and chamber groups argued the higher rate would create an uneven tax across the county and cities. County revenues through March exceeded last year, and opponents warned of lost funding if the rate rose. The ordinance to rescind passed, with second reading set for Tuesday June 1.
