Danish Queen Margrethe Visits Solvang in Bicentennial Tour

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Prince Henrik spent about three hours in Solvang on a nationwide bicentennial tour. She spoke to 247 luncheon guests at Bethania Lutheran Church and praised Solvang for preserving Danish heritage while remaining loyal U.S. citizens. The visit referenced greetings from Queen Ingrid and a 1939 Solvang visit, as the royals arrived near Svendsgaard's Motel amid bustling crowds.

Lompoc trustees set budget study session and hearings

Lompoc Unified School District trustees plan a budget study session tomorrow night after the regular agenda. The 1976 77 budget preliminarily exceeds the current by a few hundred dollars but lowers the general fund tax rate to 52 cents per $100. Total tax is estimated at 4.99 per 100, down from 5.19, with noCOLA included yet. The board will also review a conflict of interest code, ITA alternatives, a Vocational Education Council, summer school offerings, and enrollment reports. The session is at 7 p.m. in the Central Administration Building.

Six primary elections in one day spotlight race

United Press International reports a historic six primaries on Tuesday with Ford expanding his delegate lead through caucuses in Kansas Vermont and Alaska and uncommitted Pennsylvanians plus anticipated New York support. Reagan campaigns in Oregon while Carter Udall Jackson and Brown gain elsewhere amid write in bids and policy clashes.

One-year-old boy killed by horse in California canyon

Justin Craft Patton, age one, died after a horse trampled him while brushing near a mobile home in La Salle Canyon. He was injured around 2 p.m., treated at Lompoc Hospital, then pronounced dead at Marian Hospital in Santa Maria at 4:41 p.m. The stroller was struck by the horse, causing the tragedy. Chuck and Judy Patton reported the incident to sheriffs deputies.

Hijacking ends in death aboard Philippine jetliner

UPI reports a Philippine Airlines jet in Zamboanga City was stormed by antihijacking troops after six hijackers held 14 hostages. The 15 minute battle left 13 dead including the hijacker leader and two other gunmen, with 22+ injured. Passengers escaped as the plane burned.

Ford campaign in California urges death penalty policy

President Ford in Anaheim before the California Peace Officers Association urged a death penalty in federal murder, espionage, and serious drug cases. City budget sources many for general fund amid 1976 77 plan

The proposed 1976 77 general fund budget details revenue sources led by property tax, sales taxes, and transfers from electric and water utilities. It notes a 698,575 property tax contribution, 665,000 in sales and use taxes, and 364,328 beginning balance. New items include a 500 bicycle licensing fee and multiple fee and tax streams totaling 1,829,295 in general fund revenues and 1,978,155 in transfers to the fund.
