Boxing bill approved by California Assembly panel

The Assembly Commerce and Public Utilities Committee approved a bill barring boxing events on closed circuit TV in California without state Boxing Commission permits. It would let a commission representative oversee ticket counts to ensure correct tax receipts, citing $120 000 from the Clay Frazier fight. The panel also backed measures cutting amateur boxing age to 16 and boosting fines to 2500 for boxers and wrestlers.
