New administration building planned for Lompoc

The Santa Barbara County Housing Authority will build a new 100000 dollar administration complex adjacent to Lom poc Post Office at 901 W Ocean Ave. Architect Pierre Claeyssens will present preliminary plans to the Lompoc Planning Commission at 7 30 p m. The current headquarters on West Maple Ave dates to World War II and covers 5000 square feet plus a 2400 square foot maintenance wing.

Vance resigns from Lompoc school board effective immediately

George R. Vance, who lost his April bid for two seats, resigns effective now. The board will meet to consider a replacement to aid budget work before June 30. Holmdahl may fill the term. current members are Mrs. Thomas Archie Nagle John Beattie and Jack Helman.

Dig-In plans move forward for Lompoc sand sculpture event

Mike Monahan announces progress on a design for the first annual Lompoc Dig-In to be held at noon as the tide goes out. Participants will dig a giant sand sculpture and, when the tide returns, will play music and sing as the water washes it away. Mrs. Monahan says the happening invites diverse people to come together in a new setting. Everyone is invited to bring shovels buckets and musical instruments.

Viet Cong peace plan viewed as more negotiable

A South Vietnamese official said the Viet Cong 10 point peace proposal appears more negotiable than previous Communist stands. Allied negotiators study the document from the 16th session of talks, noting new elements but still push for practical concessions. Ambassador Lam said some points may be discussed now as he heads to Paris for consultations.

Local fire official in critical condition

County Battalion Fire Chief Vernon Wise lies in Hemet Valley Hospital in extremely critical condition after a heart attack suffered during a demonstration with Santa Barbara County firefighters at Roosevelt Forest Camp near Hemet. Wise, 43, has served 18 or 19 years and was promoted in 1964 to head Station Five in Vandenberg Village.
