County Supervisors OK Preliminary 1974 75 Budget and Revenue Fund

The Board approves a $77.5 million preliminary county budget with a 30 cent tax levy rise and reviews a $7 million special revenue fund proposal. Raymond Johnson recommends offsetting $2.7 million for a north county jail and juvenile hall with $2.5 million in revenue sharing, cutting the tax rate by about 39 cents from the earlier estimate. He also allocates funds for detox centers in Lompoc Santa Maria and Santa Barbara, and for a north county agricultural building. Several park acquisitions are rejected, and carryover funds fund park projects and capital outlays including a vote counting system at Santa Barbara General Hospital equipment and other county needs.

Obituaries for Wiegand French DeJesus announced in Lompoc area

Memorial services for Joe Wiegand 45 in Santa Barbara follow a short illness at Cottage Hospital. Wiegand fire chief at Vandenberg Air Force Base resided in Lompoc and is survived by his wife Dolores, two daughters, four brothers, his mother, and many nieces and nephews. Additional services will be held in Amarillo, Texas. Thomas A. French Sr. 80, former Lompoc resident, buried in Browns Valley after dying in Challenge. He leaves a widow Adelaide, a daughter Rose Turner, two sons, 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Remedios C. DeJesus 40, death at Lompoc District Hospital with funeral pending at Starbuck Mortuary.

Phelps Resigns From Lompoc Water Commission

Virgil Phelps announced his resignation from the Lompoc Water Commission after serving since 1970 and most recently as chairman. He told Mayor E C Stevens at a county planning meeting that he had sent his letter of resignation, but details were not disclosed. City officials were surprised as the letter had not arrived. remaining commissioners now number two of seven.

Management awards honor D. Gordon Woosley at NMA dinner

More than 150 NMA members and guests attended the Central Coast Area Chapter dinner where D. Gordon Woosley received the Gold Knight of Management Award. Woosley is Deputy Director for Operations at Federal Electric Corporations Western Test Range Division and joined FEC in 1964 after leading the Apollo Test Program at North American Aviation. He is active on the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce board and chairs its Aerospace Industries Committee, with ties to AFA, AIAA, ITT, Navy League, and the Vandenberg community. He is married to Mary Louise Payne. they live at Vandenberg Village Country Club with son Peter and daughter Susan.

Santa Barbara County to Count Ballots at Central Sites

Resolution 74 316 designates central counting locations for the June 4 1974 consolidated primary election. The Board of Supervisors approves three sites the County Courthouse basement Santa Barbara the County Office Building Lompoc and the Santa Maria office for precincts 221 254 255 318 with some precincts set for hand tally. Ayes outnumber nays and the plan includes 23 Cubic Votronic machines to expeditiously count votes.
