Lompoc project vote split as board backs state water plan

Santa Ynez River Water Conservation District directors declined to recommend the Lompoc Project, voting 2-1 to urge county support for the state Feather River plan and to study upstream flood control. Some members cited the need for water storage and the district will reconvene May 20 to finalize comments before the May 27 Santa Barbara County Water Agency meeting.

Pentagon plans to ship nerve gas by rail nationwide

UPI reports the Pentagon aims to move 27 000 tons of nerve gas from Denver and Edgewood arsenals to Earle New Jersey by train for disposal at sea. About 20 trains of 45 to 60 cars each would traverse routes including Indianapolis and Elizabeth. Local officials fear leaks in populated areas and call the plan too grisly to consider.

Dig-In at Ocean Park Lompoc Promises Beachside Art Music
