Defense proposes $121.4 million in California base construction

The Defense Department asks Congress to authorize a $3 billion military construction program for FY1974 including 38 California sites. Vandenberg AFB appears with $220,000. Camp Pendleton and Twentynine Palms receive 800 and 60 housing units respectively. Army, Navy, and Air Force projects totaling millions are listed across Fort Ord, Presidio, China Lake, San Diego, and other bases.

Reagan Backed Reapportionment Plan Hits Senate Roadblock

In Sacramento the Reagan favored SB195 by Sen. Harmer and Sen. Zenovich faced an unexpected setback as a 15 day reconsideration rule deadline expired. Senate aides reported the bill would not be heard again, ending the Harmer Zenovich effort to preserve incumbent seats and redraw districts, while rival SB62 from Sen. Dymally proposes an alternate plan with a new Chicano district.
