Quakes Hit Middle East and Italy. Several Hurt

Sharp earthquakes struck the Middle East and Italy with panic in Cairo and Tel Aviv. In Egypt at least nine injured as homes and a mosque collapsed. Tel Aviv buildings rattled while residents sought air raid shelters. Local tremors also felt near Jerusalem and the Red Sea.

California College Republicans Merge with Young Republicans

In Sacramento the six year old California College Republicans voted 101 to 16 to dissolve and join the California Young Republican College Federation, ending a split since 1963. The merged group includes about 3,000 members in 85 campus chapters, with leaders named from UC Irvine, Cal Poly SLO, and other campuses. Governor Reagan and state officials endorsed the merger.
