Reagan to reorganize California Welfare Department

Sacramento UPI Ronald Reagan's administration plans big changes at the state Social Welfare Department eliminating more than 100 professional positions through attrition. Director Robert B. Carleson says demotions and transfers may occur but clerical staff are exempt and no layoffs are expected. Budget cuts noted in the 1971-72 proposal and board hearing set for April 6-7.

Judge Grants Honeymoon After Convicted Robber Is Sentenced

U.S. District Court Judge William Grey sentences Stuart Bell to five years for attempted bank robbery and grants a stay of execution to permit his marriage to Thais Gratton, 37, of Santa Susana California. They wed Friday night in Ventura at the Seven Step Foundation offices with 75 attendees and a minister quoting Kahil Gibron. Bell, 34, Los Angeles, must surrender to the Los Angeles marshal at 10 a.m. April 5.

Kronauer receives medal for service at Andrews AFB

Maj Gen Clifford J Kronauer Jr Air Force Systems Command chief of staff has been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for meritorious service as commander Space and Missile Test Center from July 26 1963 to July 15 1970 Gen George S Brown presented the award Kronauer led testing of missile and space vehicles enabling DoD and NASA programs The 1920 El Paso native earned MIT degrees and began service in 1941 He later commanded the Air Force Western Test Range and became first commander of the Space and Missile Test Center in 1970

Col Col Coonan retires after 30 years of service
