Court to decide on Gun Control Act interpretation

The Supreme Court agreed to review whether the 1968 Gun Control Act bars felons from firearm possession. Kenneth Bass, sentenced to 15 months for two counts of illegal firearm possession, is the case's subject. The government argues the act makes any felon possessing firearms a federal offense.

Massive Americal base attack leaves 33 U.S. dead

The Americal Division base 50 miles southwest of Da Nang was hit by 50 to 60 mortar rounds and sappers. 33 Americans were killed and 76 injured as bunkers were blown open. Helicopters, gunships, and air strikes countered the assault while 12 enemy dead were found. Reinforcements and transport planes moved wounded and bodies from Chu Lai.

Violence escalates in Jordan as fighting rages

UPI reports deteriorating Jordanian security with government forces clashing with guerrillas in north and west Jordan. Breakthrough Hope Fades in Coal Mine Tragedy Rescue

Two miners Richard Randolph aged 63 and Charles Gibson Sr. aged 64 remained trapped 300 feet underground in a soft coal mine near Nemacolin. Officials reported hopeful progress with five drills positioned and air readings sent for analysis as teams aimed to locate and reach the miners before deteriorating conditions.

Body of missing Hughes reported during Manson case deliberations
