Farmers burn Potatoes in Oregon
A National Farmers Organization bonfire on a Oregon farm burned 750000 to 800000 pounds of potatoes from Jefferson Crook and Deschutes counties. Secretary Jim Nisley said about half were salable and prices depend on on hand stock in farmers cellars.

The FDA asks NAS to determine if saccharin can cause cancer after Wisconsin findings of bladder tumors in mice. Saccharin, on the safe list, is used as a sugar substitute. cyclamate findings prompted FDA action last year. Navy Vet Says He Was Stoned Most of Duty
A 21 year old Navy veteran testified at an Overseas Press Club briefing that he was stoned for most of his tour, helping check out planes before flight. Dr. Robert W. Baird cited 250000 servicemen smoking marijuana and urged a wide Congressional probe into dishonorable discharges for addicts. The witnesses, all dishonorably discharged, described pot heroin and speed use from Vietnam to California.
