Valley of the Flowers United Church spring auction and boutique

Preparations are underway for the annual spring auction and boutique at Valley of the Flowers United Church on April 6 from 10a.m. Auction chairman Phil Kerrigan oversees sale of appliances toys and housewares while women in workshops prepare items including soft drink hats granny square quilts and numerous handmade crafts. Donations welcome pickup calls 733-2132. Attendees include Santa Maria Nipomo and San Luis Obispo with many former members returning.

La Honda PTA honors Ben Dupree for service award

La Honda School fourth grade teacher Ben Dupree receives the PTA honorary service award at Founders Day. The pin was given by past recipient Mrs. Lawrence Vandborg. Dupree, born in Oskaloosa Iowa, studied at Drake University and taught there after graduation before moving to Lompoc. He has coached Little League, assisted youth basketball, advised Student Council, led talent shows, served as PTA auditor, and is teacher representative for La Honda LEA. The Duprees have three children and live at 1321 Loquat Ave. A $25 donation to the student loan fund was made in his honor, part of over $200,000 allocated this year.

Susan Benz to Wed Curtis Fossum in July

Susan Benz daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl W. Benz of Palmdale announced engagement to Curtis L. Fossum of Northridge. The bride-elect, a 1971 Lompoc High School graduate, studies nursing at USC Medical Center and will graduate in June. Fossum, a CSUN political science senior, served in the U S Army and works for Triangle Publications. They plan to marry July 20 at St Stephen's of the Valley Lutheran Church.
