McCarthy vows to oppose bid to remove anti smog device repeal bill
Sacramento Assembly Speaker Leo T. McCarthy says he will fight a Republican move to strip SB13 from the Transportation Committee. Assemblyman William Campbell of Hacienda Heights announced he would seek to bring the Senate-passed bill to repeal the anti smog device requirement to the full house. The measure would drop a program mandating 1966-70 model cars in the South Coast Air Basin install devices, potentially allowing action despite previous committee defeat. Campbell argues the South Coast region is underrepresented on the committee and notes it would take 41 votes to advance the bill. Committee Chair Walter Ingalls warned Campbell’s tactic could backfire.
