Plan group confronts broad questions on growth and environment

The 25 member citizens advisory committee for the Santa Barbara County comprehensive plan will present views on 19 questions covering environmental protection population growth water supply housing open space transportation and economic development. Led by Hugh Young the group aims to deliver a goals report to the Board of Supervisors by April 1.

Parks panel backs full time parks chief in Lompoc

The Lompoc Parks and Recreation Commission voted to recommend a full time director of parks and recreation to the city council. They urged the position be filled promptly to coordinate maintenance and planning amid River Bottom and Beattie park developments. Recreation superintendent Jack Anderson was endorsed to assume the role. The commission also approved five facility use requests including events by the Church of God of Prophecy Filipino American Club Central Coast Rollin’ Rooms and the Lompoc Community Woman's Club at Ryan Park and Ry on Park venues.

Exxon files for permit to build offshore Santa Barbara project unit

Exxon Corporation moves to develop offshore oil and gas fields in the western Santa Barbara Channel submitting a conditional use permit to power onshore and offshore units. The site near Los Flores Canyon in Refugio area would host an electrical sub station for a planned onshore processing plant and pipelines. The project aims to support the Santa Ynez Unit with giant platforms and possible underwater production, spanning 83 000 acres from Pt. Conception to Capitan.

Vandenberg Village 83 Lot Project Moves Forward

The County Planning Department fields two north county proposals a new 83 lot residential tract in Vandenberg Village and an indoor rifle range at Santa Maria Rifle Club. A tentative map for Vandenberg Village by Vandenberg Village Development Co. covers Sirius Road Constellation Road area with an average lot size around 8 060 square feet. The tract expands a previous map which planners say expired and hearings will follow environmental reports.
