Stevens reelected Lompoc mayor by 5-0 council vote

Incumbent FE C Stevens won another one year term as Lompoc mayor with a unanimous 5-0 council vote. Art Scott was chosen mayor pro tem by a 5-0 tally, with Sol Lefkowitz absent from nominations. Lefkowitz had won four more years on the council, as Stevens set a new election record.

Lagomarsino sworn in to fill Teague term in Congress

Robert Lagomarsino was sworn in as U S representative for California to fill the late Charles Teague’s unexpired term ending this year. The 47 year old former state senator defeated seven Democrats in the March 5 special election and will run again in November for a full two year term.

County workers vote for labor bargaining groups

Recertification elections split state authorized unions for county employees. Firemen and engineers favored the International Firefighters Assn AFL CIO 92 9 while supervisory fire department workers backed 143 for the same. Supervisory and non supervisory attorneys backed the County Government Attorneys Assn 2 0 and 18 0 respectively. No other unions sought support.

Milk witness tests $300,000 payoff in antitrust suit

Dwight Morris, former AMPI secretary, testified that officials negotiated in 1971 with President Nixon's private lawyer for a $300,000 payment to end an antitrust suit. He said Nixon's lawyer was involved but details remained disputed.

In New York the government assails key witness Harry L. Sears in the Mitchell-Stans case while Sears admits lying to Vesco and to the grand jury.
