Jones Extends Lead In Monsanto Open Third Round

Grier Jones, 23, rookie of the year, held a four stroke edge entering the third round at Pensacola. He fired a 4 under par 68 for a 134 total as wind and cold slowed others including Dick Lotz and Dave Stockton. Jones seeks his first pro win since 1968 and aims to improve on last year’s surge to 16 strokes behind eventual winner Jim Colbert.

Seattle Pilots Franchise Bid Abandoned by Seattle Group

Eddie Carlson told Commissioner Bowie Kuhn that a Seattle businessmen group will not pursue the Pilots purchase on a nonprofit basis. Tech tops Duquesne in NIT as St Johns trounces Miami of Ohio
