Chavez McCarthy clash over stalled farm board funding
In Sacramento, Assembly Speaker Leo McCarthy and farm labor leader Cesar Chavez spar over the deadlocked Agricultural Labor Relations Board. A $3.8 million emergency appropriation failed, with rural Democrats demanding farm wage rule changes in exchange for support. Chavez accuses McCarthy of placating growers and the Teamsters, while McCarthy accuses Chavez of arrogance and trying to thwart legislative effort.
