California warns nuclear power not a primary energy solution

Sacramento reports that California cannot rely on nuclear energy to meet doubling demand by 1985. The 69 page Division of Oil and Gas study says fusion challenges make it impractical within 15 years and oil will remain the main supplier, with atomic fuel substitution only filling about a quarter of demand next decade. The findings intersect with hearings by Assembly Subcommittee on State Electrical Energy Policy led by Charles D. Warren.

Bermuda governor assassinated in weekend slayings

Police sources said two gunmen likely killed Gov Sir Richard Sharples and an aide as they walked the governor's dog outside his official residence. Ian Kinner was sworn in as governor and declared a state of emergency. Tourists were allowed to leave after searches at airport and docks.
