June ballot issue eyed on probation officer control
The Santa Barbara Board of Supervisors may place a June 8 primary ballot measure to give the board appointment and removal power over the chief probation officer. The proposal, urged by County Administrative Officer Raymond D Johnson, seeks executive control of the $3.9 million department and its 199 positions, aligning with other requested powers over the juvenile court administrator’s salary and stressing unified management.
