Cancer not amenable to crash program says Dr. Lee
California physician-educator Dr. Philip R. Lee told a Senate subcommittee that cancer cannot be tackled by a moonshot style crash program. He urged broader collaboration across disciplines and warned against splitting cancer research from NIH while opposing a plan to move the NCI under a presidential authority. He stressed complex causation and the need for integrated scientific effort. Also noted: Army Private Coe D. Weesner, 19, completed an eight week cooking course at Ft. Ord after enlisting in September 1970 from Lompoc High School.
