Elaine Jones First Woman Locomotive Engineer At Santa Fe
Elaine Jones known as Casey Jones, the first woman in the United States to join the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, trains aboard a Santa Fe diesel in Clovis New Mexico. She will complete engineer training in Amarillo Texas this spring and is one of three women hired by Santa Fe. She says the job has its challenges but workers offer encouragement. Her husband Bill is a Santa Fe brakeman and their children, ages 2 to 12, accept her new role.

16 Percent Drop in Area Accidents in First Quarter
