Famed animal trainers win Buellton site approval

The County Planning Commission approved a permit for Ted and Pat Derby to operate a permitted animal studio in Buellton along Highway 101. The Derby animals have appeared in TV commercials and documentaries. the site lies 1600 feet north of Central Ave. Also, the panel denied a five foot rear yard variance on Whitney Ave Summerland and granted two home occupation permits for bicycle work in Orcutt and vending machine supplies in Lompoc Valley.

County planners approve Macco tourist complex at Gaviota

The County Planning Commission approved revised plans for a sea coast type tourist complex at Gaviota proposed by the Macco Corp of Newport Beach. The $750000 project includes a restaurant and gift shops and aims to develop the seaside facility.

Hearing on Substation Continues in Toro Canyon

The County Planning Commission extended the substation hearing to March 26 to hear testimony on alleged misrepresentation by Southern California Edison officials about the Toro Canyon Rd project. Edison appeals a permit denial to move the plant to county surplus property, with a hearing set for March 24 before the county supervisors. Bert Lausch’s absence due to illness is noted.
