Sudan Says Black September Guerrillas Face Execution

Sudanese officials told American diplomats that the eight Black September members who killed two Americans and a Belgian diplomat in the Saudi Embassy will be executed. U.S. Marines guarded the coffins as Ambassador Noel and Deputy Chief Moore were flown home to the United States for burial.

Riot at Lompoc FCI leaves inmates confined to cells

About 150 Black and Mexican-American inmates clashed in the Lompoc Federal Correctional Institution yard injuring four inmates and a federal officer. The riot began after the noon meal and was controlled by 4 p.m. with all inmates confined and visiting suspended. Four shots were fired from a guard tower as 26 inmates tried to climb fences. The warden called the disturbance racial in nature and said the incident is under investigation by prison officials and the FBI.

A 34–strong POW group including 30 Americans and nurse Monika Schwinn, the sole known female captive, reached Clark Air Base Philippines marking half the planned release by end of month. The batch brings total freed to 299 with 292 still held. next releases may be delayed by a four power deadlock in Saigon.

D Street Favored for Storm Drain in Lompoc Plan

County Flood Control chief James Stubchaer will recommend placing the storm drain backbone on D Street. He will meet with City Administrator Gene Wahlers to decide county city roles. A $500,000 project could be funded from a $100,000 capital outlay reserve and other sources, with completion hoped for next rainy season.

Indians reject government terms to end Wounded Knee seizure

AIM leaders who seized Wounded Knee last week rejected a Justice Department offer to end the siege by evacuating with weapons and names left with authorities. About 200 AIM members and federal marshals remain in the hamlet amid heavy snowfall. Leaders, including Russell Means, vow to press eight demands, such as ousting the tribal president and bringing a magistrate to hear charges.

Cachuma Reservoir Reaches Full Capacity as Gates Set to Open

Cachuma Reservoir hits 205000 acre feet and 749.98 feet elevation, nearing design capacity. Gates will auto open tomorrow to release inflow matching Gibraltar and Juncal, while Lompoc records another .15 inch of rain for a seasonal total of 19.09 inches.
